LOCAL SURROUNDINGS

Another good thing is that Westville is just far enough away from Durban to remain a quiet and beautiful residential suburb. It is only 15 minutes’ from the city centre yet the setting
is picturesque and rustic with rolling hills and meandering streams. A century ago Westville was not much more than farm land, but in recent years it
has become quite a business centre and office parks have attracted a few major companies and professional firms that enjoy the slightly cooler air than Durban, not to mention the accessinility from the N3 and M19 motorways.

Among the local people here there is a nice easy country vibe. Generally, the homes here are set on large properties, most of them with steep driveways because of the hills. The Westville campus of the University of KwaZulu Natal is also situated in the suburb. As well as being a pleasant place of study, it is also home a Hindu temple and an Islamic place of worship - which reflects the multi-cultural student body, who come to the campus to study degrees in science, engineering, humanities and social science, among others.
